Services Offered
Hourly, daily, weekly or monthly (!) birding would include any kind of birding you want to engage in,
target, general, leisure, rarity chases, tick and runs, big days, big sits, sound recording, census work,
photography, hiking, sight seeing or anything else you feel like.
I am willing to bird by the hour with no minimum time required.
I find that birding days in excess of eight (8) to ten (10) hours are unproductive and exhausting. By late
afternoon, particularly in summer, birding is slow and the birds are quiet. Why exhaust, dehydrate and
sunburn clients for a few more dollars to stretch the experience to a day longer than ten (10) hours?
Let’s keep the day standardized so we can all avoid “extra hours” (though I do offer them). You’ll
appreciate the evenings by yourself for personal birding, a siesta, a shower, shopping, swimming,
visiting friends and family, writing up your bird list or taking in a hot meal at a local restaurant (unless
owling is on the menu!).
Are you coming to Tucson for a business conference or weekend special? I can pick you up at your
hotel, take you out for a quick 3-4 hour birding adventure and then drop you back at your hotel or the
airport.
Are you already on another tour or trip itinerary or even a non-birding trip? Why not use E¢onomy
Birding Servi¢es, Inc to fill in the time before or after your other reserved trip, particularly in and around
Tucson or on flight days?
Beginner, professional, amateur, casual, hard core, lister, photographer, never birded before? I serve
all levels of interest and intensity.
Additional Birders
Up to seven (7) additional birders can be added to your itinerary. The maximum number of birders I
like to work with is eight (8). The maximum number of cars in a practical car pool situation is two (2).
After that, things get messy.
If you want me to accommodate a larger birding group or situation, send a proposal, I will consider it.
Shuttle Service
I am more than happy to drive my vehicle and shuttle you for the day. Just realize there is a cost to
this service I must cover to avoid losing money.
I have both a Honda Accord, which seats 3 to 4 fuel economy-minded folks for on-pavement
destinations, and a Dodge Durango 4 x 4 SLT, which seats 4 to 5 folks, for all off road and high
clearance destinations.
My suggestion is that you rent a car or bring your own and I travel with you for our birding time. If you
would like me to drive, simply add my name at as an additional driver at the time of rental. In that
case, there are no Shuttle Service charges. Please rent a suitably sized vehicle for comfort. Cramped
quarters and bumping around on dusty roads is miserable when it’s hot and you’re traveling long
distances (besides, I am football player sized). If it is your idea to travel into a high clearance or 4 x 4
area with an unsuitable vehicle, I will likely decide not to go. Likewise, I won’t fit into the back seat of a
Mini Cooper or a two-door sedan!
Benson-based Birding Days
On weekdays when my son is scheduled to be off school, I might be available to take your reservation
if our daycare facility in Benson is amenable to watching my son for the day. This means I’ll be based
in Benson for the day starting at 7:00 AM (a great place to bird and a great launching spot for trips to
the Huachucas, Chiricahuas and other nearby hot spots).
You may actually save on my travel time in certain instances because Benson is closer to cities and
birding areas to the south and east of Tucson.
Access to Fee Areas
There are quite a few birding areas in southeast Arizona that require additional fees for entrance and
the privilege to bird. Some are voluntary and some are mandatory. The voluntary sites are mainly
private residences being run as Bed & Breakfast establishments and open yards. Regardless, if we
visit these sites, you will responsible for all such fees including my own.
I will have an annual pass for one car for the Coronado National Forest and all of Arizona’s National
Parks and Monuments. In two car carpool situations, the second car will be responsible for all
passes and associated fees. Of course, you can wait to pay for these fees while on our outing
instead of forwarding them to me. I offer this service so that you understand ALL of the fees
associated with a day afield.
Longer Birding Engagements
Being new, I’m trying to keep things small and simple. If you would like to hire me for a longer birding
tour than a week, or for an area outside of southeast Arizona (for example, the White Mountains of
Arizona), ask! Who knows, I might say yes! Destination tours are available, but I plan on staying in
southeast Arizona as much as possible. I also love Texas, Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota,
Colorado and California.
As stated earlier, quotes are free and I might occasionally agree to a non-Arizona destination!
Other Services
No other services are included or supplied as part of your reservation such as food, beverages, trip
planning, transportation, lodging, bug spray, snacks, cocktails, notebooks, internet access, hats,
sunscreen, lip balm, air fare or anything else not specifically mentioned as included on this web site.
All of these and more are to be provided by you!
I will offer to supply anything you might need on your trip with a minimum charge for the effort, so
please ask.
